Subgroups in Kiranti
The Kiranti languages are members of the Bodic branch of the Tibeto‑Burman language family. On the basis of sound laws and what is known from grammar and morphology, van Driem (2001: 615) proposes four main groups and ten subgroups of Kiranti languages. Today I will discuss the major criteria which enable the identification of subgroups in Kiranti, viz. phonological developments and shared lexical isoglosses.
